Go Greener in '09

Thist week is Environment Week in Scotland, and there is a lot of buzz over what this beautiful country can and should do about protecting and conserving its unique natural landscape. In a concise article in the Scotsman the main points of the week are emphasized to bring attention to the many happenings around Alba this week. Events that could determine how Scots will live the next few decades.

Both Environment secretary Richard Lochead and Environment minister Roseanna Cunningham lead by example by appearing at and parttaking in the events, and urging Scots to do the same. A handful of significant bills are debated in the Scottish Parlaiment this week that are “pivotal for Scotlands environment”, including the Marine, Flooding and Climate Change Bills. One of the weeks highlights is the opening of Galston Primary School in East Ayrshire, the country’s greenest school. Politicians and activists join forces during these series of events to advertise recycling, the use of public transport, and to call attention to the fact that although a lot has been achieved already, there is still a lot of work to be done.

Scotland is leading the way in environment friendly politics. Scots realized that conserving their environment is key to their succes in tourism, one of the major sources of income for the country. Also, they came to understand, that improved recylcing rates and a reduced amount waste is not only good for the planet, but for their pockets as well. The rest of the world should join in, and follow their lead. It’s a must, and it’s beneficial. Let’s go green in ’09!
